JOB TITLE:  UTILITY SYSTEM TEAM LEADER - Check Position Availability
 
DEPARTMENT:  Systems Operation Center
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: 
Utility System Supervisor
WAGE: 
Non-Exempt
 

JOB OBJECTIVE:
To perform work and/or supervise assigned employees and projects within the assigned area to ensure safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Henderson Water Utility’s water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
 

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Assume the assigned duties of the Utility System Supervisor in his/her absence at request of Superintendent or General Manager

  • Supervise assigned projects and workers to be sure tasks are being accomplished

  • Assist employees in work that is assigned/necessary

  • Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe, economical, and efficient manner

  • Maintain all equipment and machinery, including safety equipment

  • Ensure proper documentation

  • Inspect work to ensure that it is being done correctly and timely

  • Provide technical assistance when needed

  • Operate equipment

  • Draw maps when needed and keep records of work undertaken

  • Be available for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

  • Carry pager for standby duty at request of Utility System Supervisor

  • Carry pager at all times to be reached in event of emergencies

  • Perform other duties as assigned/needed

  • Maintain a positive attitude with team

  • Maintain good public relations

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Must have good communication skills and the ability to supervise and motivate people.  Must have good verbal, numerical, and diagrammatic skills along with the ability to deal with unforeseen situations.  Must have mechanical knowledge; some knowledge of water, wastewater, and stormwater system principles and practices;  some knowledge of water and wastewater treatment operations; the ability to review and interpret related plans and construction specifications.  Must know the day to day operation of the Systems Operation Center services.  Must be able to operate heavy equipment.  Needs to be able to apply basic mechanical rules and principles.  Needs to be able to follow symbolic/diagrammatic systems.  Needs to be able to lift heavy loads.  Needs numeric ability sufficient to estimate and apply simple formulas.  Needs to have quick sensory and physical responses and good coordination.  Requires ability to quickly comprehend a wide range of technical concepts and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team/unit.
 
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED required with 5 years job related work experience. A College Associate’s Degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience.  A College Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted for 4 years of experience.  Must be willing to obtain CEU's in Supervision as directed.  Good performance appraisals and appropriate certification may be required.
 
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
Pass alcohol and drug screening test.  Based on pre-employment physical examination and demonstration through job performance is physically able to perform  the essential functions of the position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential tasks.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the work of a crew of Utility System Worker or Maintenance Workers.
 
LICENSING OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver's license.  CDL with "N" endorsement.  The appropriate Certification within 12 months of employment in the position (Division of Water Class III Certification, Collection System Certification when available, appropriate Maintenance Certifications).
